A Unique Catalan Experience: Castells
A castell-concours is a traditional competition in which different teams (colles) build human towers called "castells". The word castell literally means "castle" in Catalan. This is a spectacular and emotional event, deeply rooted in Catalan culture (UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage).
In Valls, a provincial town about 20 minutes away, you will find the Museu Casteller de Catalunya. Valls is considered the birthplace of these human towers. At the museum, you can experience via multimedia what it is like to participate in building a castell — an unforgettable experience! Check local listings for performances (diades castelleres), especially during village festivals (festes majors).
Relax on the nearby beaches of the Costa Daurada or enjoy the panoramic views from the Cruz de la Talaia.
